Upon entering Vancouver Island University I was awarded the Presidents Scholarship for scholar athletes. This scholarship is gifted to the top academic athletes upon entrance to first year studies at VIU. Current grade 12 students must have attained an 86% average. The award is eligible for renewal for 5 years, providing I stay on the volleyball team, continue with a 80% course load, and maintain a minimum semester & cumulative GPA of 3.33 (B+).
Nanaimo Sport Recognition
BC Summer Games Award
The Nanaimo 2014 BC Summer Games scholarship is awarded to one female and one male graduating student who is an alumni of the BC Games (either summer or winter) and demonstrates a commitment to community service through participation in school and community activities during their grade 11 and 12 years. In 2014 I was chosen as the captain of the Zone 3 (Vancouver Island) indoor volleyball team that was to compete in the 2014 BC Summer Games. Despite having a very young team we overachieved and finished with a silver medal. During these games I took on a familiar role as a leader of the team on and off the court. I was in charge of team transportation, meetings, increasing the quality of practices, etc. Scholarship coordinator Lesley Domino says I was a “sure win” for the award.
