Does social media make us more lonely?

I found this article while I was searching for the meaning of Cyber-balkanization ( a term I have heard of a few days ago)

Cyber-balkanization has deferent meanings on of them is “the division of the Internet into sub-groups with specific interests, where the sub-group’s members almost always communicate or read material that is only of interest to the rest of the sub-group.”

Does social media make us more lonely?

Semiotics

Semiotics

Semiotics: is the study of signs, or as defined by the Swiss linguist Ferdinand de Saussure semiotics is the study of “the life of signs within society.”  Semiotics is one way of seeing the world and trying to make sense of how the things around us, culture, for example, has a great effect on us. In other words, semiotics will help us to understand the real meaning of a context by understanding how signs are communicated in that context.

One of the most common examples of the semiotics is the stop sign on roads. When we are driving our cars we tend to stop when we see this red metal sign on the side of the road. We will stop because we know that the meaning of this red metal sign is “stop” not because someone told us to stop.

Polysemic

Polysemic

Polysemic: According to Oxford dictionaries polysemy is “{t}he coexistences of many possible meaning for a word or a phrase.” In other words, polysemic is anything capable of having different meanings. For example, when people make different senses of a TV program or a movie; then we can say that TV program or movie is polysemic.

Social Norm

Social Norm

Social Norm: they are the accepted behaviors and actions in a society or a group of people. The social norms are not governmental laws, they are unwritten laws provide order and predictability in society. If a person wants to gain approval in a group, or a society he must follow these social norms and every society has his own norms.
For example, greetings are social norms. When someone says hello to you he is expecting a hello from you in return. Or another example, when you receive a gift from a person you should respond with thank you.

Convergence

Convergence

Convergence: There are different majors and fields of study that uses the term convergence; from biology to technology the meaning of convergence is almost the same which is combining or merging two or more distinct things into one united thing.
As an example of the convergence in the technology world, the convergence the mobile phones and the internet. At first, when the mobile phones were invented we have used them for calling each other from anywhere, and when we combined the internet and its specs we invented something new capable of doing much more than the old mobile phones.
